Biographical Profile

Iain Smith OBE (born in GlasgowScotland) is a film producer. He is known for his productions of Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), The Fountain (2006), Children of Men (2006) and The Fifth Element (1997), among others.

Iain has served on the boards of the UK Film Council, Scottish Screen, the Joint board of Creative Scotland, the Scottish Film Council, the Scottish Film Production Fund, the Scottish Film Training Trust as a Governor of the National Film and Television School, a director of the Children’s Film and Television Foundation, and as Chair of the Edinburgh International Film Festival. He is currently a patron of the London Film School, Chair of the Film Skills Council, and Chair of the Film Industry Training Board.

He is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the Production Guild of Great Britain, and the Producers Guild of America. Iain is also Keeper of the Lair, Glasgow Necropolis (2010).In 2011, Iain Smith was appointed Chair of the British Film Commission.

In 2011, he gave a hallmark speech at a United Nations' WIPO conference.

We are excited to welcome back Greg Cannom for the 2016 show. Greg enjoys the show so much he wanted to put together a special presentation showcasing shots never seen before, exclusively for UMAe. Last year Greg's presentation focused on aspects of film. For 2016 we are honored to have Greg give a main stage presentation about his career, again a very special opportunity not to be missed.

Brian Kinney (Makeup Artist)

Brian Kinney is a 2012 primetime Emmy-nominated makeup artist and a Journeyman in IATSE Local 706 Make-up Artists and Hairstylists Guild, where he also serves as Makeup Craft President and Executive Board Member. Since 1999, Brian has been professionally working in film, television, theater, and print.
Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Brian received his BA from the University of Iowa. Upon graduation he moved to London, England to train in makeup artistry at the Delamar Academy.
Brian has made his mark in FX labs, on set, and in classrooms across the U.S. and Europe. His work can be seen regularly in feature films and television shows, such as CSI, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, Modern Family, and Purge: Anarchy.
In 2012, Brian launched Full Slap FX, bringing a professional line of tools and Hurt Box molds for use in making prosthetic appliances. Full Slap FX products are available at professional makeup suppliers worldwide.

Sarah Ashleigh began life as a make up and body artist in 2008 when she started her degree at West Thames College. After graduating she began building her vast portfolio of work and set up The London Body Painting Co, which offers makeup, hairstyling and body painting. Through this name she has worked across the UK and Europe and has appeared on ITV and Channel 4. Along with her growing team of professional artists, she has worked on various feature films, in TV programs such as Made in Chelsea and also with corporate clients for events and PR. Sarah finds inspiration from many parts of her life, whether it be people she meets or places she travels across the world. She is never without her sketch book and iphone to record it all.

Branka came from a fine Art background into the world of Make-up Artistry. She trained at West Thames College in London in all aspects of Hair and Make-up. Branka currently works for a number of fashion designers creating key looks for their campaigns whilst exploring current trends in runway and print. Over the past few years Branka has delved into the world of body painting within the commercial field and fine art commissions. She is now recognised as one of London's most talented body painters, with an incredibly creative flair and endless boundaries to her imagination.Alongside Branka's Freelance work, she also teaches at West Thames herself, helping to build the next generation of Make-up Artists.

Sian Revill (Makeup Artist)

After taking a foundation degree in artistic makeup and special effects from Coventry Uni, Siân Revill went on to complete the Master Makeup Programme, creature Maquette and digital fx at the famous Cinema Makeup School- Hollywood. Sian's fascinating work was recognised by The Cinema Make-up School and she was chosen to represent the school at IMATS UK 2014. Sian's creative flair and keen eye for detail has led her to create a number of extraordinary creatures and high trauma prosthetics for TV, Film and events.

Tiiu Luht has been a professional makeup artist for over 25 years. She is currently a principal makeup artist with the Den Norske Opera and Ballet in Oslo, Norway. Previously,Tiiu served for 10 years as makeup department head at the Estonia National Opera. She taught makeup artistry at several schools, including her own in Estonia. Her credits include makeup and hair design for over 100 different operas, ballets and musicals throughout Europe.Tiiu served as a guest presenter at the 2014 Makeup Artist Design Show (MADS) in Dusseldorf.

Ahsen Gulkaya is a makeup artist and makeup instructor in Istanbul, Turkey, working internationally in multiplesegments of professionalmakeup. Her credits include design and makeup for numerous movies, television, fashion, editorial photography and theater. She has taught makeup since 2004 and specializes in special effects. Ahsen is the proprietor of Handesan FX Shop in Istanbul.

Darren Jinks has served as Wig Master at the Los Angeles Opera since 2006, and has worked as a makeup artist, wigmaker and hairstylist for over 25 years in opera, theatre and film. He is the recipient of the Guild Award (I.A.T.S.E. Local 706) for Best Makeup for a Theatrical Production for the Magic Flute (2014) and The Lion King (2002). Darren’s previous credits include Broadway touring productions of The Phantom of the Opera, Titanic and Disney’s The Lion King. He has served as a guest educator at IMATS L.A., IMATS Vancouver and UMAe London.

Shaune Harrison (Award Winning Makeup Artist)

Shaune’s love of films started at an early age, and as a child he experimented with 8mm films trying to copy scenes from his favourite movies. After years of trying to recreate classic creatures, Shaune finally started in the film industry in 1988 working in the field of Special Make-up Effects.

At the age of 22 he designed his first movie, “Enemy Mine” directed by Wolfgang Peterson, and with this his first temporary tattoos. He soon earned the reputation for producing quality work with the greatest attention to detail.

With 11 award wins and 22 nominations. Greg Cannom worked as a makeup artist on Michael Jackon's "Thriller" music video, he also won the Academy Award for Best Makeup for Mrs. Doubtfire as well as for Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula and David Fincher's F. Emily Dowd has been working as a make-up and hair artist within the industry for the past six years. Initially training as a wig maker and theatrical make-up artist in her home of South Wales, she then went onto study make-up for T.V. and film in London. Choosing to pursue a career in film make-up she was lucky enough to work on movies ‘Made in Dagenham’ ‘W.E’ and ‘My Week with Marilyn’. Following this she discovered a love for body art and began working with world renowned artist Carolyn Roper, founder of www.getmadeup.com and has been lucky enough to travel to some amazing locations with Carolyn including the Caribbean, Hong Kong and Paris.

Paul Merchant is a London based makeup artist working as head of the Kryolan UK makeup team. Paul has worked in all disciplines of the Make-up industry, from Theatre to Fashion, Body Painting to Cosmetic Camouflage.

As a self taught artist, Paul has developed his own style of working: "...I love to play around with products and find different and interesting ways of using them, other than their intended purpose. Having had experience in most genres of the industry I find the cross overs of products and techniques to be really useful in my creative work."

Paul is a global ambassador for Kryolan both on creative shoots and education . He has taught in countless schools and colleges across the UK including London College of Fashion and has completed tours of India and Taiwan focusing on High Definition make-up in Bollywood and editorial fashion. Some of his work includes London Fashion Week, Britain & Irelands Next Top Model Live, Sainsbury’s TV commercials, Help For Heros' Stadium Concert, Aggro Santos Music Video 'So Sexy', various editorial campaigns, and heading the Kryolan team on America’s Next Top Model Live.

Jeanette Redmond has been working as a Hairdresser / Barber / Colour Specialist for the film, TV and theatre sector for two decades. She graduated as a Hair & Make Up Artist from UCA (London College fashion) in 2000. Prior to coming into the industry Jeanette worked in salons & barber shops for 16 years in Chiswick, Kensington & Knightsbridge and is very proud to have assisted & worked alongside the very best in British Film Hairdressing.
