United Makeup Artists Expo Competition

Date: Sunday 12th April 2015

Background:


The Great War (WW1) took place throughout Europe between 28/7/1914 - 11/11/1918. Many countries were involved mobilising nearly 70 million military personnel including 60 million Europeans in one of the biggest wars in history.

Countries Involved:


Great Britain, Russia, France, Hungary, Serbia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Japan, United States of America, Belgium, Luxembourg, Greece, Portugal, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, India, Canada, Newfoundland, Montenegro and Siam.

Entrant rules:


This competition is open to student, trainee, assistant makeup artists that must have studied / trained for at least 1 year, and graduate makeup artists who have been working for less than 1 year. Students must provide contact details for their place of study and their tutor. Graduates must provide a dated graduation certificate or letter from their education institution. Trainee and assistant makeup artists must provide information and contact details for their employer.


Entrants must have purchased a 1-day ticket to the show.


If you are selected as a competitor you do not need an extra day's ticket for competition Sunday. You are welcome to use the ticket for entry to the show on Saturday, but must keep your wristband on as proof of purchase.


Models do not require a ticket for Sunday.


What You Have to Show Us:

Your Prep


VISUAL INSPIRATION BOARD that you will need to show our judges. No bigger than an A3 Sheet. Can also be done on a computer, making a composite and printed out. (10 points)

FACE CHART showing your Makeup and Hair Design (5 points)

MAKEUP TEST PHOTOS: presented. (5 points)

Makeup and Hair


Your final makeup MUST include ALL of these items (each section is worth 10 points)


Cuts and Scars (10 points)
Bullet wounds - these have to be accurate and you need to be able to tell us what type of bullet was fired and what the trajectory was when the victim was hit. You HAVE to be able to back up your work. (10 points)
Shrapnel wounds (10 points)
Illness/malnutrition (10 points)
Bruising (10 points)
Fatigue (10 points)
Rotten/discoloured teeth (10 points)
Grime (10 points)
Hand Laid Facial Hair - not a lace piece (10 points)
Nationality Transformation: Your character MUST NOT come from Britain. You have to characterise your actor's face to be believable in period and time and country and that they are from one of the countries listed. (10 points)


You will earn extra points for Originality, Research, Professionalism of finished makeup, Back story of character. Your quality of work has to be as Close to film standard as possible. Theatrical work is unacceptable. (10 points each, 50 points extra potentially).


Your character will need a costume; but please note that it will not earn extra points.

Any props you make and bring will not earn extra points so consider your fabrication time carefully - perhaps you could use the time to practice your makeup.

Judges will be a selection of our guest arists and will announce a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. Prizes will be awarded, details provided on the day.
