1. Theme

Contestants are required to set and comb-out period/vintage hairstyles from the 1920’s, 1930’s, 1940’s or 1950’s. This will be a ‘dry set’ using hot sticks, rollers or electric tongs/brushes. Checkout this site (Reference link: www.thehistoryofthehairsworld.com ) Criteria for vintage comb-out: Period/Vintage Hair Styling - Time allotted 90 mins.(See Section 8 - Timetables) Hair must be ‘dry set’ with hot sticks, hot rollers or electric tongs/brushes. Use of mousse or heated roller sprays is allowed. This is to be treated as if for a proper ‘dailies call’ for a Film or T.V. production.

2. Entry Forms

All completed entry forms available from a ( Competition Form ) must be returned to info@nasmah.co.uk by the deadline of 23:59 Friday 15th April 2016 with ‘COMPETITION’ (& theme) typed into the Subject area along with supporting documentation and completed ( Tutor Recommendation form )Judges will select 8 finalists who will be notified 10 days before the show.It is the competitor’s responsibility to enter themselves correctly and to ensure the entry is accompanied by supporting documentation.Competitors must hold a valid show entry ticket for the relevant day of the show in order to enter the venue.  Your e-ticket number must accompany your entry form.   Vintage Hair competition models do not require a ticket.Entries must be accompanied by TWO images from the competitor’s portfolio course-work, either in jpeg or pdf format.  Images must not be more than 1mb each in size.Entries must be accompanied by a completed Tutor Recommendation form.Please enter as early as possible.Entries cannot be considered after the deadline date/time.Your competition entry confirmation will be sent via email.Entry acknowledges an agreement to adhere to the rules & regulations.

3. Eligibility

This competition is open to final year students and recent graduates. Contestants MUST provide contact details for themselves and their tutor (mobile number plus email address please). Recent graduates must have graduated within one year prior to the competition date. Please note that on the date of the competition, entrants must be over 16 years of age.

4. Competition Registration

Competition Registration will commence at 10:00 a.m. and will take place in a designated area following entry ticket registration at the Show Registration Desk.
Competitor entry numbers will be issued on the day of the competition at the Competition Registration Desk.
Competitors must be seated (with their model where appropriate) in time for the briefing which will be made approximately 5 minutes before the scheduled competition start time.
Once the briefing commences, neither the competitor nor the model will be allowed to leave the competition area, apart from a toilet break in exceptional circumstances only.
Anyone arriving after the briefing has begun may not be permitted entry.

5. Judging Process, Score Sheets and Awards Ceremony

Models must queue to be formally judged and MUST remain in the competition area until all the judging has finished.

Once a model leaves the competition/judging area, they will NOT be allowed back in.

The Awards Ceremony will be held at 16:00 (Saturday) 15:30 (Sunday) and all models are required to remain in character until the Awards Ceremony. Failure to do this will result in disqualification

All score sheets will be distributed after the Awards Ceremony and judges will be available for feedback so please have your model with you. Serious competitors gain valuable advice and feedback from the judges to improve their confidence and technique in both the working and competition environment.

In the event of a tie, the Competition Director’s decision is final.

Rules and regulations or amendments will remain at the discretion of the competition organisers.

All entries are accepted with the competitor’s agreement to abide by all the rules and regulations.

Video footage and photographs may be taken by an official photographer and United Makeup Artists expo reserves the right to use the work in its website and for promotional use.

6. Set-up, Briefing, Models and Competition

You must set up in plenty of time for the briefing.
Before the briefing, all equipment and personal belongings must be stored neatly under the tables.

Please note that once briefing starts, competitors will NOT be able to retrieve any items from their bags and belongings and points may be deducted if this occurs.

You will be provided with, Artist’s chair, Table

Competitors must provide their own Model, Materials and equipment needed for competition

No smoking or eating is allowed during the competition or in the competition area.

Soft drinks are permitted.

Mobile phones – Competitors will be disqualified for phones that ring, vibrate or are answered during the competition as this is a distraction to fellow competitors. You are permitted to use your mobile phone as a “silent” timer.

Once in the competition arena you are not permitted to touch or prepare the model until the competition has started other than the criteria stated in Section 1.

Models should wear suitable warm clothing and comfortable footwear. The temperature of the competition area can fall below that of the show floor and models may be required to stand for some time during judging.

Please inform your model that judging can sometimes take up to 1 hour. If any competitor or model is pregnant or has a medical condition or special need that would make this difficult, please inform the competition staff at the registration desk.

Competitors must be aware that floor judges will be observing working practices. Marks will be awarded for hygiene, tidiness and personal presentation.

7. End of Competition

At the conclusion of the competition, competitors MUST leave the competition area until permitted to return by competition staff.

Please take both your own and your model’s personal belongings with you, such as bags, as the organisers will not be held responsible for these items at any time.

The competition staff will inform the competitors when they are allowed to pack kits away. This is normally once the models are lined up for judging after competition closure time. This rule MUST be adhered to as disruption to other competitors will not be tolerated.

Please consider your fellow competitors whilst they and you are working.

All kits must be packed away and removed in time for the Awards Ceremony which is held at 16:00 (Saturday) 15:30 (Sunday)

8. Timetable: Sunday Competition


10:00 – 10:30 Registration.

10:30 – 10:50 Set up workstation followed by 5 mins. briefing.

10:50 – 12:20 Period Vintage Hair Styling.

12:20 – 12:30 Clear down and close out station.

12:40 – 13:20 Judging

15:30 – 16:00 Awards Ceremony, presentation and photos.
