Mood boards are compulsory, making up 10% of the overall marks, and must be no bigger than A3.
Suitable costumes are to be sourced and are worth another 10% of the marks.

Hair is worth 40% of the marks available: ornamentation, postiche and additional hair pieces are permitted, as are headdresses which must not cover more than 25% of the hair.
Thermal appliances are permitted but must show that they are PAT tested.

Makeup constitutes the final 40% of the marks: both cosmetic and airbrush makeup products are allowed, including strip lashes.  No lash extensions should be worn by your model.

Theme: Wes Craven characters

Contestants are required to recreate a character from the master of youth horror, Wes Craven.  A suitable costume must be sourced.

Background
Our Film and TV category dives into the filmography of the movie director who changed the horror genre.  Ensure your character satisfies the compulsory elements listed below.  Your compulsory Mood Board is a visual demonstration of your thought process, illustrating your character and the make-up design you have chosen.  It is worth up to 10% of the marks.  You’ll present your character our judges.

COMPULSORY ELEMENTS:

  • Character Make-up
  • Minimum of one prosthetic piece such as nose, cheeks, etc.
  • Hand laid hair - beard, moustache, eyebrows
  • Hair to be styled or wig applied
  • Makeup FX to come from the colour palette not a piece
  • If female, the beauty is to be in accordance with the directive

OPTIONAL MAKE-UP ELEMENTS:

  • Wounds/bruises from the colour palette
  • Recent injuries
  • Illness

NOTES: This is to be treated like a proper Make-up Call on a movie or television set.  At the end of the allotted time, the model will get into costume, just as they would in reality.  You’ll be judged on your interpretation of theme, design inspiration and attention to detail.   Wigs and hair are important, as well as the costume, but it’s down to your skill and creativity that will win the day here.
